I finally discovered how old my first "set" (its a big box of random bricks) is. I found the old ideas manual and at the bottom of one of the pages it read:

Printed in Germany 1981

I cant believe it! I actully own a classic set!

Wow. That is old. Some of my first bricks were actually my dad's. So who knows, they may date back around that era, too.Smile

I know! I think that it is the best ship ever made by LEGO! Legotrain587 Hi by the way! Good to see you in the MBs! (Although technically it would make more seance for you to say that to me being the older poster.) Anyways FINALLY a REAL ship for the Soldiers!

Well, the soldiers did have all the cool forts.

Did I just here something about a ship for the Soldiers?!? That would be AWESOME!!!

Yup It comes with 9 minifigs, has over 1,600 pieces, and looks AMAZING!

LEGO releases these kind of sets every year, it's a LEGO shop exclusive, not to mention expensive! Still cool, but not to the point I really want it.

Yeah, but without ships, what good are forts?

Well, they have better defenses? I don't know, pirates are way cooler anyways! Did you know that Captain Redbeard's monkey is named Spinoza?

I don't know! It doesn't seem like an issue though.

I've got some Legos that were my Dad's. They are probably from maybe 1966 to 1972. Somewhere in that time. I rarely use them, but they are compatible with newer LEGO bricks.

Yah! That's cool. I'm not going to go into detail about classic sets that I own, but yours tops them all!! 1981!!! That's like the 80's!! Awesomely rare that box is.

It's probably not as rare as you think it is, but it could be.

BTW, sorry if I sound a little bit negative on this. I'm really happy for you, Orbit. I'm trying to point out the facts.

Yeah, but does it have all of it's bricks? That's what counts. Still, pretty cool find!

Yeah, as far as I know all the bricks are there. It even came with two minifigs I still own- so..two of my minifigs are 28 years old?!!! Indifferent

Ya but can you chase a pirate ship in a fort?

Right, but now that the new Imperial Flagship is coming, the Pirates stand no chance.

Hey guys, even if the Toy Story sets don't catch your fancy, or you just plain don't like 'em, please watch the Toy Story movie. It WILL have Legos in it, even the trailers show LEGO pieces laying on Andy's floor. So, I suggest we buy the movie on DVD to show our support for our favorite toy brand!
