I think that's a great idea. It would be inspirational to LEGO Mindstorms builders back on Earth that it all starts with a dream and turns into reality!

also if you had 4NXT's you would have  12 motors and 16 sensor slots, comunicating by bluetooth constantly and to the mars rover again and it can go into tight spaces, and maby go into 4 seperate robots powered by solar, have a real rover transport themm there, hey! let's contact N.A.S.A. right now!(nasa stands for, well, i don't know.)

great idea sending LEGO to mars! it would also make LEGO alot more popular and also earn alot more money!

go LEGO!

nasa stands 4 north american space agency.

tip for anyone who wants to complain they could put one on mars with a few upgrades like longer battery and maybe solar also better comunication and more durabul physically and magneticly also it could dock on the rover for power and shelter and no it's heavy enough to not fly off the moon

P.S. I know this because I am very smart also just so you know I have some friends at N.A.S.A. but don't bug me about it because I thought it would be nice to help out but I have a big project to complete

yeah it will! mars has like, one tenth the gravity earths got . if it hit a rock it would bounce away! theres a reason the make all the martian probes out of metal!

you could send like 20 of them, with solar panels and stuff, an make them go like 20 feet apart, as they drive. that way, you could send send info from one to the next.

say i was the 33rd robot in the chain. im recieving a message originaly sent from the 40th bot. the message could say: f40 t33 p ultra to rock f58d.

(t33 means i listen to the message. if it said t32 or lower, i would pass it on.)

this message would mean: from 40 to 33 pount ultrasonic (sensor) to rock f58d.

(this would be like co-ordinance or something)

well thats my idea. oh yeah. and if you think that NASA would laugh, they took

ants into space. so what the hay?

good idea! but woldnt 40 robots cost like $10,000 or something?Tongue Tied

This might work but yes you would need many up-grades to make it work, and it would be very hard to program. Especially when the need of scanning comes in.

i totally agree with you all the way, orangelego77! the only thing i would add is to give it treads instead of wheels (for going forwards/backwards), and a separate wheel mounted on the back for turning! that would so rock!

Well nasa probably would laugh in LEGO face if someone went up to them and said hi we wanna' put a nxt on your next shuttle to mars. HOWEVER it could survive out there where know human could. Actullay (I hope i'm not turning into nasa) the whole idea is ALMOST crazy enough to work. here are some things to change: the wheels would get all covered by dust in the joints. AND the systems all high tech or not just aren't good enough for MARS!!!

nasa might agree. i mean how much space does a nxt take up anyway?
